Happy, happy Monday! Who else is ready to tackle another week head on and get stuff done #girlbossstyle? I am know that I am! This week in NC, it’s going to be about 90 degrees everyday, so I will be tackling this week in skirts and sweat-proof face moisturizer #NoShame. Last weekend, I attended a fun shopping party with my Style Collective babes at Kendra Scott in North Hills. We had such a fun time enjoying desserts from Seasons 52, some bubbly *Cheers*, shopping & dinner at Firebirds. (Which if you haven’t been, I totally recommend going ASAP – so yummy) This week, I’ll be meeting up with some other bloggers in the area for a summer menu tasting at Seasons 52 in Raleigh. I am super pumped to meet new lovely ladies and enjoy some fun times together.
Anyway, this weekend I will be traveling for a quick trip to DC! I will be attending a fun work meeting on Capitol Hill, surprising my cousin at his dance show and going to my other cousins’ graduation, whew. To say that I am excited would be an under statement for sure! In addition to seeing my family, I am excited to explore a couple DC gems including possibly going to the African American History Museum, which has been on my bucket list since it opened a few months ago. Do y’all have any go-to spots in DC? If so, let me know if the comments and I’ll be sure to add them to my list. I have about 36 hours round-trip, but want to squeeze in as much fun as possible, so I am taking all suggestions.
Anyway, today I am styling this fun floral chiffon duster from PinkBlush. I am also sharing my top 3 tips for wearing dusters during the summer. So, let’s get started.
- Make sure your duster is lightweight. I would separate your winter/fall dusters from the ones you wear during the summer. An extra layer of clothing can be extremely uncomfortable in the summer heat, so making sure your duster is lightweight and breathable. When it comes to length, I prefer longer in the summer because I have a extra layer of clothing to sit on if I’m out on the town and the seats are hot.
- Wear simple layers underneath. Odds are, your duster is printed or full of bright colors already. So, dressing simple underneath will keep the attention on the duster and not crazy patterns below. However, I would definitely splurge on colorful earrings, a fun necklace or stackable rings to play up your look. I’m wearing a choker from Cynthia 01 Designs & my earrings are from Target. My simple black dress is from Old Navy and is comfy enough to be worn over and over again. It is currently on sale for $13 plus an additional 30% off at checkout – so grab yours now!
- Play up your shoes. Your shoes will probably be the only thing people see, outside of your duster, especially if you are wearing simple layers. So, have fun with the shoes! I love these fun tie-up espadrilles from Marc Fisher. I snagged a pair at my local Belk on clearance but you can only find them in-store for a low price. I have already worn them for 2 days and am so in love with them. I am also thinking about wearing them for my day in DC because they are seriously that comfortable.
So, those are my top 3 tips for styling a duster during the summer. If you don’t know about PinkBlush, you need to check them out right now.
