I have so many words and not enough words at once. I absolutely adored getting to learn more about Harry’s upbringing and life before the last few years. I felt completely gutted listening to the young boy in him relieve the grief, chaos and heartbreak os losing his mother at such an age. The way he tells the story puts you there: behind the coffin. in the bed the night her learns from his father that his mother has died. at the boarding school when he returns. You are there, int he flesh, seeing it from his eyes in every sad and hard way.
As a young American, I must admit I didn’t know much about the British royal family outside of Princess Diana, who died before I was born. Of course, in past few years when Meghan Markle started dating then married Harry, I became obsessed with them as a couple. I am 100% #TeamMeghanandHarry and what was even better than hearing about his early life, was hearing the love story of them two in his words. The jitters. The first kiss. The secret flights. The grocery shopping “together” but separate. It was incredible and goes to show folks that every sweet, happy thing they think H&M do for the cameras, they actually do behind close doors. Every bite of heartache and tension and bullying we think happens from the media and the family, actually happens.
In agreement with so many others, the entire section on military service was harder to get through given my lack of background in the subject but I appreciate that Harry appreciated that portion of his life so much to write about it in such detail and taking the readers along for the ride.
I wish and hope nothing but success and safety for the Sussex family as the past few years have been so incredibly hard on two people who seem to be nothing but in love and want to make the world a better place. 10/10 recommend the audio over a physical copy.
