Such an incredible book told from the spectate of a 23 year first year nurse and her 60+ wise, now doctor, self. I felt myself in Civil a lot of the times. With her naivety, desire to help and change circumstances of those around her and her eye for justice. I also felt for her trying to navigate mercy waters in such a time where Black bodies were (& often still are) used for experimentation even when you trust the system not to. SO much historical context and medical history to learn about the real-life 1973 case Relf v. Weinberger.
Bonus points: such a great book club read! So many ways to digest and discuss this book for lovers of historical fiction and non 🙂
